NOTICE TO OUR VALUED CLIENTS

To align with the bylaws set by the College of Veterinary British Columbia (CVBC), Point Grey Veterinary Hospital and Fraserview Veterinary Hospital operate as two distinct entities. Being a client or having your pet seen at one location does not automatically translate to the other. Similarly, medications provided or treatments done at one hospital are exclusive to that location and are not automatically recognized at the other. We understand this might pose some inconvenience, and we sincerely apologize. However, it’s essential for us to adhere strictly to the CVBC regulations. We appreciate your understanding and continued trust in our care.

"My 9 year old cocker spaniel was one of their first clients on the opening day. They’ve now treated her for two issues that we put off over covid, including a surgery. Dr June, Tina and the rest of the team clearly adore animals. They are patient, have a strong attention to detail and my dog adores them. Highly recommend."

“Compassionate, understanding and knowledgeable.
In a world where we all care dearly for our little furry friends and would do anything for them, it is extremely refreshing to have an experience where your vet listens and makes a decision with you (not for you) and in your best interests (not their bottom line).

Dr Chan took the time to listen to our concerns, offer insights and present our solutions with logical risk assessment for both the condition in question and the impact on our pet (who does not do well in social environments).”

"Our first visit to Fraserview Vet was great! Dr. June Siu and the staff treated our dog Momo with care, and were happy to answer all the questions that we had about Momo. I would highly recommend future and existing pet owners to come here or their sister hospital, Point Grey Vet, if you want your pets to be professionally cared for."

Vaccinations

Fraserview Veterinary Hospital creates customized vaccination plans for you and your pet. Although five “core” vaccinations are required, we assess your pet’s individual environment and recommend additional preventions if necessary. (After all, we’re treating urban animals here) All vaccines help your furry friends live longer, happier, and healthier lives.

For Dogs

Canine Cough Vaccine

Any dog that goes to dog parks, kennels, daycares, groomers, or interacts with other dogs should be vaccinated annually. We see many dozens of cases of Canine Cough each year in our own practice. The vast majority are unvaccinated dogs. Canine cough is characterized by a harsh, hacking cough which most people describe as sounding like “something stuck in my dog’s throat.” It is an airborne, highly contagious disease. Some dogs get better without treatment, but some dogs may develop pneumonia.

If you plan to board your puppy in the future, attend group training classes, or use dog daycare services, often proof of this vaccination will be a requirement.

Rabies Vaccine
ADULT DOGS EVERY 3 YEARS

We will always recommend the rabies vaccine. Rabies is a highly fatal virus that causes neurological disease in affected animals. Dogs, cats, bats, skunks, raccoons, and many other animals can get this disease. In British Columbia, the primary source of Rabies is bats, and we definitely have bats in Vancouver! In 2007 around Maple Ridge, an indoor unvaccinated cat died from Rabies after playing with a rabid bat that flew into the house.

DAPP or DAP Vaccine
ADULT DOGS USUALLY EVERY 3 YEARS

Combines protection against distemper, adenovirus (hepatitis), parainfluenza, and parvovirus. Administered in a single dose for adult dogs every 3 years.

FVRCP Vaccine

Commonly known as “feline distemper,” it is a combination vaccine that includes protection from 3 major airborne feline viruses: rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and panleukopenia. Administered in a single dose every year.

FeLV vaccine

We recommend this vaccine for cats that go outdoors and those in multi-cat households. As an adult, cats are vaccinated annually. Viral leukemia is a prevalent, highly transmissible, and often fatal disease, of which there is no cure. Each year, we see cats that die from this disease in our own practice. It’s heartbreaking, as it most likely could have been prevented.

Dentistry

Maintaining excellent dental health in your pet can substantially increase the quality and duration of their life. Poor oral health contributes to many diseases: heart, liver, kidney, and joint disease (arthritis), for example.

Gum disease is common, and it hurts. Just remember: if it would hurt you, it hurts them. “But they eat just fine” is never a good guide for you; their instincts are to eat regardless of the pain. Pets are much better at hiding pain than we are. The changes we see in our patient’s health and behavior after dental work are amazing, and we are proud of our results.

Nutrition

Nutritional requirements for dogs and cats vary depending on a variety of factors, including age, breed, and health. For instance, senior pets have different requirements than puppies or kittens, and animals with diabetes, kidney disease, and other health conditions can benefit from specific diets.

Our veterinarians can help you make informed decisions about your pet’s diet.

Senior Pets

As dogs and cats get older, they need more attention and special care. Our senior wellness program can help your pet remain fit and healthy as he or she ages and help us catch any potential problems earlier when they’re easier to treat or manage. Regular veterinary exams can help your pet live longer, too!

Behaviour Management

It could be as simple as cleaning up one too many accidents in the house. Or a distant memory of the dog park because of aggression towards other dogs.  Whatever the level of severity, bad behaviour is a struggle for many pet owners.

From house training to excessive barking, aggression to anxiety, unwanted behaviour can drive a wedge between you and your pet.
